Beverly Dobrinsky singing two Ukrainian folk songs presented as part of the panel "Memory Everlasting: Post-Peasant Cultural Sensibilities from the Canadian Prairies: the Art and Vision of the 3rd Generation" which took place at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, September 15, 2007. It was part of the "'Last Best West' or Just Like the Rest" conference on Western Canadian Identity.
She opens the panel with her first song, "Vichnaja pamjat", which means "memory everlasting" in Ukrainian. It is a song traditionally sung at funerals; here Beverly sings it to honour our ancestors.
The next song is a powerful and melancholic welcoming song, for the living and the dead, "Zelene Zhytto." This song is included on Dobrinsky's Slavic soul ensemble, Zeellia's second album "Willow Bridge" For more information: www.zeellia.com
