Sleighs come in numerous styes, as demonstrated by Ursula Baier. Ursula takes you on a guided tour of the Skyline Farm collection of sleighs and cutters.
Then Robyn Cuffey shows the proper techniques for driving a sleigh, along with some tips on how to turn and how to avoid getting into trouble in deep snow.
Finally, Vicki Schmidt displays many different styles of sleighbell - including hip drops, shaft bells, body bells, hame bells and saddle chimes and shows how to attach each style and how to accustom a horse to hearing and wearing bells. 1 hour 14 minutes. DVD available from Rural Heritage.
Very nicely done narrative and an impressive collection . Thank you for sharing it. One suggestion for the purpose of the outward adjustable shaft is to make it easier to get the sleigh on and off the horse. Fixed shafts are narrow so the horse can push the runners sideways to turn; the horse cannot back into them. These shafts make it easier to move the sleigh up to the horse and bring the spread shafts down over its back to hitch it.
