Repton 3 Work Level 8 (in FOUR MINUTES)

The eighth level of Work is one of five levels (with Arctic 7, Oceans 8, Future 4 and Future 7) that compete for the record of the level requiring the longest time. You are given a very generous 30 minutes, and according to the Hall of Fame at http://www.superiorinteractive.com/repton/3.htm the record time for this level is 7:02. Here I complete it in just under four minutes.

Also of interest on this level: when I first wrote up this level for my series of walkthroughs, I believed that solving it required Repton shuffling the 29 rocks in the top-left corner. Fortunately, this is not so.

Many thanks to Jonathan (reptongeek) for his idea of releasing the rocks near the timebomb while the other rocks were falling; this not only saves time but also allows the timing of the rest of the level to fall neatly into place. The monster in the upper-right can be a real nuisance, however. If he hesitates in following you round the corner, the lower-right spirit is likely to slip out before the rock connecting his cage falls into place, and then any chance of completing the level in four minutes is gone.

I'm sure your way is much faster though - I liked how you dropped those same boulders down for the 2 cages at the end!

And 3:53 was pure class.

I can quite easily take three times as long! I find this level really scary!

That was awesome (this Screen took me forever)..!

I linked the cages to the right differently though... you pushed boulders across the very top, using boulders to fill in the gaps...

I collected the key, and pushed the boulders across the section where the 4 spirits started in - there are no gaps to fill that way, so fewer boulders were required.
