The old-time tune Kitchen Girl played on banjo by Brian Scott.

Someone requested this one awhile back and so I finally dusted this tune off to post.

Banjo tuned in the neighborhood of gDGBD.

  • I've heard a good few versions of Kitchen Girl on you tube but this is my favourite by far. Has to be the coolist song on banjo too.

  • @sarzen1 Thanks for that! Glad you enjoyed it. This tune is a lot of fun to play on the banjo for sure.

  • Great playing!

Where can i find that tab? :)

  • Thanks for the compliment...You can find tabs for Kitchen Girl in a number of books... Miles Krassen's "Clawhammer Banjo", "The Banjo Pickers Fakebook", and probably many others. It's a fairly common tune in the old-time world. I play it in gDGBD tuning, some folks play it in the G modal tuning (gDGCD).

  • Thanks! :)

Is that the book you got it from? Krassen? I heard a few versions but I find the version you play to sound the best.

  • My version is really a mish-mash of several versions. I think I learned this tune trying to emulate Dwight Diller's playing (on his album Banjo 99). However, over the years I've probably changed it a bit. Really I learn almost completely by ear and rarely use Tab so I'm afraid I don't think there's a tab version out there that would completely match my playing. I'd recommend checking out Dwight's version. I think he has some tabs on his website, perhaps Kitchen Girl is on there.

  • Wow man!!! You are my hero!!!!

  • I love the syncopated rhythm you get on this tune! It chugs along like a train on rails.

  • If you read Miles Krassen's "Clawhammer Banjo" you should also read his book "Appalachian Fiddle" because the it is more specific on the rhythm than is CH Banjo

  • Nicely played
