why did they throw away 1000s of dollars worth of hardware on an armed vehicle? Why not spend a couple hundred dollars with 20-30

@harris3693 First is not AIM 7 Sidwinder, is AIM 9 sidewinder, seccond is not a copy y you see the two missiles are very different. And yes, R 73 is better, becuase it had vectorial trust since almost 20 years now, long before sidewinder incorporated it.

@skjelver4 Theoretically it could but in practice drones lost every encounter with manned aircraft (You can also find a similar video from USAF Predator UAV attacking Iraqi Mig-25 and getting shot down by Mig instead).

Oh no, the poor un-manned, un-armed Georgian spy plane. What about the 2000 innocent, unarmed South Ossetian civilians killed? Besides, the drone was not over Georgian territory, so Russia had every right to shoot it down.
