(cont.) As such, it is disingenuous at best to prate on and on about how "ridiculous" it is for humans to have a justified fear of a reality, i.e., human predation by sharks. There is ZERO scientific evidence attacks occur because of "mistaken identity", much less "territorial response"- as sharks are nomadic and render no maternal care.

Just this: most of these "experts" are describing human perception of sharks instead of the sociobiological basis of the sharks' underlying behavior. Puzzling

Like many others, you are arguing against a straw man (e.g., "there is a belief in society that most if not all sharks like or even favour human meat") when there is no reason to do so. Conspicuously, when the USS Indianapolis sank, many sharks that aren't considered "man-eaters" (e.g., Silky sharks) were feeding on stranded people. Why? It is their ecological niche. Therefore it is folly to assert "we are not on their menu at all". Sharks are generalist feeders.

I love sharks too. I support conservation too. I have dived with White sharks. Nothing about that makes me want to impute mammalian emotions to them. Nothing prevents me from understanding their dispassionate execution of their ecological niche. Hmm. What happened to the Haitian people on 5/04/07? Eaten by sharks. But what of it? It makes them more fascinating.

The fact sharks do "need help" misguidedly skews the impartiality of the scientists. How can a scientists credibly contend that humans are "off the menu" when humans are eaten, year after year? The people who watched Mr. Skinner's fate unfold off Fish Hoek a few months ago would disagree because the factual record is contrary to such wishful thinking. I mean conditioning. You know what I mean.
