Yeah, well I kind of understand him .. any sufficiently large corporation wants to reduce cost and if it costs less to design a clone rather than licence the original .. the clone gets the vote. Arial is not a disaster, but neither is it an excellent typeface.
In fact, we may have gotten of worse by getting the better deal with Arial. We got a bland clone and massive acceptance. But we could have gotten nothing at all, a Microsoft without decent free typefaces .. perhaps liberating in a way.

Apple is no good either, mean bastards too.

1:52 - The test of a great, true graphic designer is how well the designer can tackle something as simple but as critical as boring industrial signage and/or forms & make them better, clearer, beautiful...er.
A culture is as good as its efforts to aspire to greatness. Look at mediocrity in some cultures, the whatever-floats mentality, it all equals crap ...crap culture.
Erik on Microsoft was so accurate and yes, despicable. I felt this way back when I found out MS did that. PC-culture.

"Even though Matthew did some cool stuff for them, you know but, they're still mean bastards. And I wonder if they walked in here with a few thousand dollars I wonder what I'd say, you know. I may be corrupted, so I'm not saying I'm a hero. They haven't asked me yet. They won't because I'm on record for calling them what I just called them."

Likewise, although it's the start of my last name, so I'm biased.
I enjoyed the reaming he gave Microsoft at the end there... spicy!
