The suburb of Parklands following the Magnitude 6.3 earthquake on February 22nd, 2011.

Twenty second of February, in the province of Canterbury
We got the shaking of our lives
We've got rivers instead of roads, it was flat now it's full of holes
And we're in silt up to our eyes
There's a fraction liquefaction, there's a fraction liquefaction yeah
Driving 'round is too much trouble, what you need is a great big shovel
There's a fraction liquefaction yeah, oh yeah
Broken sewers and broken pipes, no water we are in strife
Worst part is perching over a hole
Hundreds, hundreds of aftershocks, dirty undies and stinky socks
Just cooking tea is a rigmarole
There's a fraction liquefaction, there's a fraction liquefaction yeah
Cars buried up to their axles, daily life is a great big hassle
There's a fraction liquefaction yeah, oh yeah.
Look for a man with a great big shovel, look for a woman who will lend a hand
When it's rainy it turns to slush, when it's sunny it turns to dust
Christchurch just needs a good steam clean
Looking forward to normality, chokkie bikkie and cup of tea
And running water in my latrine
There's a fraction liquefaction, there's a fraction liquefaction yeah
Neighbourhood is like a ghost town, don't touch anything if it's brown
There's a fraction liquefaction yeah...

  • just talking bout this on the edge and how mike feels ripped off as he said "theres a fraction liquefaction first in september lol just came on here to have a look but its a great song and everyone is saying that mike should be honored lol :)

  • @xoxanniexo I had no idea what you were talking about as we're not The Edge listeners- but have listened to it online this morning. We had never heard him talk about Fraction Liquefaction- so it's just a case of great minds think alike!

  • Thumbs up if your a fellow Cantabrian who had to shovel ALOT of liquefaction

  • @hampy077 We live in Parklands- my husband (responsible for the idea, the footage, the editing, the recording of vocals and the mix) has a background in sound and regional television but is no longer in the industry. I (lyric writer and singer) am a stay-at-home mum of two preschoolers, who dabbles in singing. We are currently in the process of recording some of my original material which we will post as it becomes completed. Thank you all so much for your support and interest in our video!
