Lance Cpl. Timothy M. Jackson, 22, of Corbin, Whitley County, Kentucky, was killed in action Sept. 30 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Lance Cpl. Jackson died Thursday afternoon after encountering a improvised explosive device while on patrol in the Helmand province
