  • The original lyrics basically say "Even though I may fail so badly that I won't ever recover from the disaster, I need you to support me in my decision to try it anyway."

The changed lyrics make the song not about taking a chance on your dreams, but rather one of a dying friend (lover, whatever) saying "let me die, even if you might not ever fully get over me."

  • *shrug* Your interpretation. It never sounded to me like the song was about someone dying. I got the same exact meaning from the changed lyrics as you got from the original ones.

  • Why did they change the lyrics?

The line "though the phoenix may or may not rise" was sung "though the feelings may or may not die".

Changed the whole meaning of the song. Why?

  • The lyrics were sung as written in the published arrangement, so the question would probably be better addressed to the arranger. I don't think the different lyrics really "changed the whole meaning of the song", though.
