He was brilliant in this film. I spent today feeling so emotional after this film. Perhaps one of the best screenplays in a long time. He brings so much heart to this film... the feeling of hope within tragedy. Even with the tragedy, his performance convinces you that Celia made a change in Paul's life, and that Paul will be different now... better.

If you like MM and haven't seen this film, find it! Obviously he is a bit older now, but I think he was the perfect age to play that part at that time. He actually has a chance to really show what he can do. It is also just an enthralling film, with very good supporting acting too. Great. I do hope that he gets another opportunity in the future.

@Calucifer13 I 100% agree with you about the tragic or melancholy in his eyes - I really like it, and he uses it oftens in his characters: Arthur in Little Dorrit, Philip in Pillars of the Earth and eg. Darcy... and that makes those beautiful and warm smiles of his even better when he uses them both in interviews but also really incharacter..if that makes sense? (there's like one time in Pride and Prejudices where he really-really smiles - almost same goes for Prior Philip).

@jbers97 a bit? No I am not listening to him, i 'am just listening to his voice, not what he is talking

even the way how he says "crumble, crumble, crumble, and crumble" makes me weak in the knees at 0:54

He is my favourite actor and In My Father´s Den is one of my favourite movies, if not.

I think i just fell in love with him.. his smile kills me... xD

He's clearly a very serious actor, a smart man, deeply involved in what he does and appears to have no interest in fame or what goes with it. He seems like a genuinely good guy just trying to do his job.

Omg I fainted when he smiled at 2:24...<3
He's got something tragic in his eyes. I mean in in a good way. He looks very sweet, but also very, very masculine. He's definitely a sensitive, good person. I bet he really is a little bit like Mr. Darcy. I dont idolise him, just sayin'.
