@TomthatiscalledTom To be fair, back in the 80's you had a choice of 4 channels where now you have countless channels plus the internet.
Program makers nowadays HAVE to target their programs more sharply to certain sectors of society, because of the wealth of choice available.
Of course that's no excuse for the slew of reality / talent tv we've had over the last 10-15 years but it's a fact of life.
Don't like what's on TV in 1986? Tough shit.
2012? Change the channel.

used to love this intro song as an 11 year old back in 1986. i was never allowed to stay up late enough to watch the whole programme, but used to try and catch the intro & the first few minutes before having to go up to bed!
