we were guests @ the ranch a few times and have wonderful memories of Archie. Was sorry to hear the news.

Dad was driving at age 12, and he took his sister and picked up 2 other kids

and drove them to high school. One day he was doing a u turn to park at the school, and one of thegirls fell out of the car door! She was not hurt. Dad graduated from high school at 16, from college at 19, and had his pilot's license, engineering degree, and was an ensign at 19..

One of the things I learned about him in the past few years was that he had been invited to join the ranks of the first astronauts. As I recall the story, He had turned them down because he had moved your family around so many times (in the military) and had to be gone so much that he thought it unfair to put the family through that also.
