meh, unless this species of Latrodectus is wildly different than most, that doesn't happen all that often. it happens a bit in captivity, but usually more because the males can't get away from the female as easily as they would in nature than anything. i know ppl who have have a higher % of tarantula males get eaten than widows
Wow, thanks for posting this. I've been trying to find something like this forever. I'm researching this type of black widow for a book I'm writing, and the mating ritual is kind of important. So yeah... gross, but thanks so much!

@cacoseraph Actually, what's different about the Redback spider, is the male actually TRIES to get himself eaten. The reasons for this are several:
1. Males that are being eaten can mate for twice as long as those who aren't.
2. Females who eat their first mate are very unlikely to mate again, allowing the eaten male to have a larger number of offspring.

The female eats the male after copulation. So in a way, yeah, he did end up stuck inside her.
