OH! And I suck at math (almost failed Geometry and Algebra 2... but got an A in PreCal... cause I was in a cast and the teacher wrote my notes... YAY!) yet I magically got a 5 out of 6 on the math placement test (I don't even know how... I guessed on half of them) which equals Calculus. So if I decided to take it, then if I decided to become a business major and got a C in that class, I wouldn't have to take another math. Except I plan on going PreLaw so I'm dropping it down to PreCal. =^]
Most of the people at my school took AP courses just to boost their GPA, not to get college credit cause we weren't reguired to take the test. I took 2 AP English classes because I enjoy English and I decided to take the test just to get out of class for that day... I actually did really well and when I sign up for classes 2nd semester they'll let me know how that worked out for me. But I agree, I hate math and would much rather not take it...
It only bypasses you from the intro/first level course. Usually there are 2 years of the basic/required courses so its more saving you one year of the required courses. I took a few english courses as electives because I enjoyed them and they boosted my GPA.
Here's the thing. AP courses are not required to take the AP test. If you pass the AP test, you still get college credit. Another thing. AP courses don't really allow you to graduate sooner from college because in college you take ELECTIVES along with required courses for any program. Just take what they offered in AP as an elective and voila, you are up with the AP kids. Also, if you skip the into course cause you got AP credit, then you take a harder course, which may lower your college GPA.
Well I took the Gov Econ and English AP tests and passed them so that basically either saved me alot of time in college or allowed me to choose more fun classes that I wanna take for the hell of it. :) So very worth it. I may be good at English and hate math, I am happy about not taking boring writing classes learning things I will never use.
