The actor playing Santa Anna was too old for playing the 40 years old Santa Anna of 1836. The tone of voice of the actor was historical correct, that is the way Mexicans of authority speak.
However, the tone and accent of the soldier sounds more like a hispanic who was raised in USA, his baby talk and family language is Spanish, but his public language since kindergarten is English. When he tries to speak Spanish in public sounds funny, speaks at a single speed lacking nuance and emphasis.
