Public Transit is vital to the core of any city. Mass transit connects neighborhoods to services, workers to job opportunities, students to schools. As climate conditions worsen, mass transit is also critical to our future and the creation of ecological sustainability.
In San Francisco in particular, transportation is a dividing line of access and opportunity for African American, Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander communities who have the highest transit dependency in the city.
Over the next several years, POWER aims to shift local, regional and national mass transit priorities towards the needs of working class communities of color and to bring an analysis of race, class, and gender to bear on transportation planning decisions.
