No, he was actually there to cover it. While the sound was not broadcast, it was recorded. After the fact, it was paired with the newsreel, giving TV broadcast impression (or what one would be). So, basically, you are wrong and should check your facts.

Actually he watched it happen and said those things, they were recorded at the time and broad casted the next day over the radio and then more than a year later to film reels because it was the 1930s dumbass. Fucking awesome explosion though.

Imagine watching the superbowl by yourself and then it came out on DVD and between those two things happening, you "covered" it. And consequently, coined arguably the most recognizable phrase in the history of the English language. That's essentially what Herbert Morrison did. Fuck him.

Herbert Morrison, (the guy doing the) "reporting", is full of shit. He did not add those words until years later. Also, this was fucking 1937, this particular recording was not being broadcasted anywhere, just recorded.
