The 12-foot ice cap of Lake Bonney cracking in early summer after the sun drops behind the mountains. There is almost 0% humidity, and this causes a near instantaneous drop in air temperature. From shore the sounds were much more subtle than in the video, and we called them the Little Ninjas, and was the sound we went to sleep to at night in our tents.

(I found it best with headphones.)

  • @Hideyourshame2 it is obvious that you have never been to antarctica, a-hole. why are you wasting your time sharing uneducated opinions? i have a wealth of Ph.D-holders that will tell you just how and why 12-feet of ice cracks after spending a day in the sun. not that a 12-year-old couldn't tell you why.

  • LOL! Yeah I bet that a group of scientists and engineers with PhDs from such places as Stanford are going to take time out of their 18-hour work day to fake a video of ice cracking! That's some good use of a research grant! I'm totally going to side with the guy that can't spell "stupid." lol!
