Mohandas, played by Nakul Vaid, stands for all that is good and precious. Innocence and simplicity, goodness and talent. He comes from a humble family of basket weavers. He is good at studies and has dream of making it big in life. After completing graduation, he got a job in Oriental Coal Mines at Annupur. But he is kept waiting and waiting to actually get the job. Then, things suddenly started going seriously wrong. He learns that someone else has assumed his name and has already taken his job! When he rushes to protest, he is beaten up and thrown out.
Meghna Sengupta, played by Sonali Kulkarni is a correspondent working at a news channel in New Delhi. One day she receives a videotape from a remote place in Madhya Pradesh, Anuppur. On the tape, a battered young man claims to be the real Mohandas and alleges that someone else has stolen his identity. Someone else is living as 'Mohandas'.
Meghna places this story in the media. Harshvardhan, played by Aditya Srivastava, a lawyer from the district, takes this case of stolen identity to court. Irony and satire run as undercurrents as the film plumbs the absurd levels to which democratic institutions can be manipulated today. Mohandas strikes shinning India where it hearts most.
Story of Mohandas has been written by journalist & freelance writer Uday Prakash. The story is original but script lacks pace and though writer claims that film is based on Madhya Pradesh, language used by its lead actors are those used in eastern U.P. One wonders, whether multiplex audiences would be able to relate with its story. First because of its subject and then because of its language and background.
However, the strength of movie is cinematography by director and cinematographer Mazhar Kamran. A fine performance by Nakul Vaid & Sushant Singh also adds to its charm. Music by Vivek Priyadarshan is just average, though he has got fine lyrics from V K Sonakia & Yash Malviya.
Verdict:
Mohandas is a satire on problems, which a common man faces, in day-to-day life. But its rustic look and offbeat subject may not find too many takers though for its deft handling I rate this movie 2.5 stars.
Harijan Gandhi was pedopile , casteist minded and he was believing in Hindu Caste System.
Harijan Gandhi was the spoon of Bramham. He was working to survive the superiority of Brahmin in the Hindu caste system.
Hindu caste system is worst as ever in the world. This caste system is inhuman system, where people has no value.
This caste system is greatest insulting of human being and Gandhi believing in such a caste system.
