3/11/2010, Ian Provo Skiing the Hypodermic Needle in the Wasatch range. This is one of the best runs in the state of utah. It includes a 50 degree couloir that dumps into a massive apron. A total descent of 5000 vertical feet from peak to creek. These guys were lucky enough to hit it in all time powder conditions.

Thanks for watching! The needle is a long hike, no matter from what direction. We wen from white pine, over hogum, and ascended directly up the line, moving on to the ridgeline about 3/4 of the way up. Most people boot straight up the Y, and continue up thunder ridge to the top.

@powskier
the back side is a giant cliff and booting up the run would put you into way to much avalanche risk. If their smart, which they are, they went up to the ridge to the skiers left, all the way. the little cotton would road is to the skiers left, you can see it in the end to the top left of the screen. in the picture at the start they climbed up the ridge to the right, which when they are skiing is to the left. and it is 2x the hike you think it is because they are still way out there.

Wow!... what a good line. Did you have to climb up all that or was there an easier approach from the back side?
