  • Wheelteck, The position of the fuse is not apparent in your video. Can you please say how it complies with the requirement: "It shall be impossible to replace the fuse link in a plug unless the plug is completely withdrawn from the

    socket-outlet."

  • this prototype doesn't show the fuse box

however it will comes with a sliding door which slides out beside the prongs

that makes it impossible to open unless out of socket.

  • Thanks for the input on my UK plug design. Remember, this is only my first prototype.

My UK design patent has provisions for two folding wings to cover the plug.

Also, I have few more designs for an automatic retracting cover for the plug.

The UK should allow less than 9.5mm if the plug has sleeve protection on the prongs. Of course, there are plenty of plugs currently in use that do not meet this requirement!

If anyone has any more questions e-mail me at wheelteck@gmail.com. Thanks!

  • A power plug is only legal in the UK if it complies with BS 1363.

This design does not comply with the requirement for 9.5mm from any part of the power pins to the periphery of the plug, an essential safety requirement. It is not possible to design a plug with rotating pins which meets the 9.5mm specification unless the rotating pins are housed within a body which would extend 9.5mm from the pins in the useable position, such a plug would clearly be no smaller than a standard plug!
