Sri Lanka unveiled the proposed Hambantota games village as the commonwealth games 2018 evaluation committee concluded its visit to the island. Sri Lanka and Australia are bidding to host the games in 2018.
@TheKUPPUSWAMY hey you are a really stinky son of dog..this is for Sri Lanka...What the fuck always..sinhala area, Sinhalese...fuckers go to Tamilnadu...you prove that you can't live in peace..fucking terrorists...go go go ...pleas go to tamilnadu..it's tamil's country...The Hell on the Earth...
Compared to the Australian presentation, SL made an extreamly poor shaw. Everything on the Drawing Boards and whats the guarantee that we could make all planned facilities in time, especially with our world famous undettered corruptions? Above all where are we getting the funds when we are already heavily indebted, having to borrow money to pay the interest already. It could have been a disaster as Greece which was a far more affluent and stronger economy went bankrupt having hosted Olympics.
@superkays I am not an economist, but I think this project will be a positive one for Sri Lanka. I now live in a western country where only about 10% of the Population would know where Sri lanka is on the world map. Things are changing, there is over 30% increase in tourism within one year, perhaps it will increase much more within the next few years. I think this project will boost tourism on Sri Lanka and help boost it's economy. Not too many people out there know the beauty of Sri Lanka.
We need to finish one major expressway every two years starting from 2014 until 2040. Let's have an expressway next to each A class road. By 2040, no town or village must be more than 40 km from an expressway.
@ihds6778 Finally, a simple google search will show you that there is always a massive overspend on these projects. Budgets will without doubt be revised upwards placing a greater strain on Sri Lanka's fragile, but growing economy at a time when we should be more judicious in our spending habits. The last commonwealth games was budgeted at under US$500m and the final figure was estimated at US$13bn. We cannot afford the overspend to be even half this amount
