Border Star Montessori tries very hard to provide good nutritious meals but there is only so much that they can do. Currently students enjoy lunch in their room and take part in setting it up and cleaning it up. They also have garden boxes which the students care for, harvest and prepare for consumption in the class.
There are still needs, and recently we held a community pot luck to raise awareness that school lunches provided by the district are unhealthy. Board of Education members as well as City Council members were witness to the great healthy food that parents and other community members wanted the kids to have access to.
We're hoping that Chef Ann Cooper will come to Border Star Montessori and give the students there a much needed school lunch makeover.
Special Thanks to all the parents, kids and community supporters of Border Star for their participation as well as the Musical stylings of Checkered Past and their song, "Slow Food".
