House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD (just outside of Washington DC) sells new and vintage fine stringed instruments. Here we have Mark Sylvester, one of our teachers, demonstrating an ODE 6500 model banjo that we had for sale (not currently available).
This banjo was made in 1979, which puts it in the "Gretsch Era" (ODE was originally started by Charles Ogsbury in 1961, then sold to Baldwin in 1966. In 1976, manufacture of these banjos was given over to Gretsch, a Baldwin subsidiary). The famous 6500 Model D is one of several Mastertone-style models ODE produced. This banjo was recently set-up by our senior banjo luthier. It has very minor cosmetic imperfections, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 30+ year old instrument.
Asking price on this excellent-condition banjo is $3,000, with hard case. To inquire about purchasing, please contact House of Musical Traditions directly at hmtmail@hmtrad.com or 301-270-9090.

On this video Mark is just playing a bluegrass fingerpicking riff—nothing specific!
Video produced by Glenn Tucker with audio engineered by HMT's in-house engineer and pro audio repairman Trevor Higgins. We used Neuman TLM103s through a tube preamp and with a DBX compressor set in stereo.
