What kind of car are you driving in this video? Reason i ask is i am planning on driving an older front wheel drive car over the rockies in Decemeber of this year.
We were in a LandRover 4x4 which had been pretty well prepped for that kind of driving. However, front wheel drive is the next best thing for driving in snow.
Are you planning on the Canadian Rockies or the US Rockies?
As far as an 'older vehicle' as long as you have good tires, good chains that you've practiced taking on and off, and a good battery, you'll be fine if you drive within the speed limits of the chains and are heads up about the weather.
That is a great drive! If you haven't done it before, there are some beautiful places Nrth of Vegas on the 15, and then the 70 through Utah is also amazing. Depending on the weather, you can pick up snow in Utah and it will be with you the entire way to CO.
I live in LA as well - just drive to the snow a lot.
As far as the mountains - I was trying to gauge weather and remoteness. Although the 70 in Utah is remote, it is still a major road with traffic. Just watch the weather. Great trip!
