Yep,I bought it NEW in '64 and rode it for a couple of years...I have a "65 Pan I just restored and it was the LAST Panhead as well as the FIRST Electric Start, hence the name ELECTRA GLIDE,great old bike.....you can see my '47 Knuckle here on You-Tube....just look me up :-)
...I've been ridin Harleys for over 50 years now and I've owned many DOU GLIDES as well as HYDRA GLIDES....many people make the same mistake,I'm not a smartass, just someone whose "been there" :-).....ride a '47 Knuckle right now as well as a '09 Ultra Classic....I still like the OLDER bikes !
Well your were correct, Google says '65. My apoliges.I have a H-D History book I'll have to reference it and research it further. Thanks again 95inchhog.
Are you sure it was a '64. If it was, I'm certain it had to be an early production. 12 volts is what made the '65 Electra-Glide possible. If I get time this week, I will research it further. Thanks for the reply.
First Hydra-Glide was 1949. The Duo-Glide didn't appear until 1958-1964. First Electra-Glide and last Panhead was 1965. First 12 volt electrics was 1964. First Flat Side Shovel (generator) was 1966. First Cone Side (stator) Shovel was 1970. Last dead mans throttle and mandated turn signals was 1972. First KN Model was 1955 & 56 First Sportster was 1957. First left side foot shift Sportster was( mandated by Government )1975. AMF purchased H-D in 1969, first tank logo appeared in 1972.
As usual the French must be corrected, this IS a Hydra-Glide....Duo Glide means DUAL SUSPENSION, as in FRONT and REAR.......a BLIND person can see this is a hardtail frame......Hydra Glide refers to ONLY one set of hydraulic shocks and they were on the FRONT ONLY......go ahead with you lame ass response, fact is you were, and are, wrong in your description.
