Many people think that taijiquan (tai chi) uses yielding as a primary strategy for self defence. The truth is that tai chi strategy is much more direct.

Ian Sinclair of Cloud Mountain Martial Arts in Orillia, Ontario, Canada, demonstrates how circles lead to straight lines.

  • sweet, now i can stop people pushing my forearm >:D

  • @UberMetallMaschine

That's right, but don't forget that, like other martial arts, tai chi is also famous for it's ability to deal with a right lunge punch. ;->

  • wow this is soo amazing, but got a question, would you say this is good for like random fights? cause like karate theres always a stance or something but your not always able to get in that stance or such, does this have the same flaw?

  • @OZITOMAE

Your ready position is whatever postion you are in at the time.

Stance training teaches root. When you have achieve root, you don't need a particular stance or technique.

  • Full frame demos are always better, I can't see your feet and therefore cannot relate to what you're saying.

If feet could talk and and talk could walk.

  • 25 people do real fighting. This is exercises for for old people. They give tai chi classes to senior citizens at various gyms in my city.

  • Tai Chi is like real deadly in hands of an expert in the self defense applications of it. It was meant for self defense it's movements are concealed due to political powers trying to suppression of martial arts at the time. MMA is like regulated sparring with emphases of holding your self back.

  • the man in black is so fast

    so amazing !

  • @joel844 MMA is a sport that amuses people. Taiji is way beyond that. As you can see from the vid, when it comes to real fighting, a couple of seconds is exactly what it takes. Master Zhijun Zhang has defeated a group of top level Karate masters back in the 90s. Each round took less than a minute.. The MMA stuff is just not comparable. It serves different people for totally different purposes. So learn Taiji but watch MMA, make your life rock, lol.

  • @Edalb123 Sure they can.. but it's really easy for both sides to get hurt, so people basically just try to avoid it. Not to mention taiji is a very low profile style and Taiji V. Wing Chun is a pointless match because it really depends on the fighters.

  • @sasakoncar That works only better... the harder you push, the harder for you to maintain in center/position. Once a person goes off center so easily, you know what happens. The video explains very well, even better than some Chinese version.
