(E) As I sat down one (B7) evening
within a small ca (E) fé
A forty year old (A) waitress
to (B7) me these words did (E) say

I see you are a (B7) logger
and not just a common (E) bum
For nobody but a (A) logger
stirs his (B7) coffee with his (E) thumb

My lover was a (B7) logger
There's none like him to (E) day
If you'd pour whiskey (A) on it
he'd (B7) eat a bale of (E) hay

He never used his (B7) razor
to shave his horny (E) hide
He'd just drive them in with a (A) hammer
and (B7) bite them off in (E) side

My lover came to (B7) see me
T'was on a freezing (E) day
He held me in a (A) fond embrace
and (B7) broke three verte (E) brae

Well, he kissed me when we (B7) parted
So hard that he broke my (E) jaw
I could not speak to (A) tell him
he for (B7) got his macki (E) naw

I saw my lover (B7) leaving
a-sauntering through the (E) snow
while going grimly (A) forward
at (B7) forty-eight be (E) low

The weather it tried to (B7) freeze him
It tried its level (E) best
At one hundred degrees below (A) zero
he (B7) buttoned up his (E) vest

It froze clear through to (B7) China
and it froze the stars (E) above
at a thousand degrees below (A) zero
it (B7) froze my logger (E) love

And so I lost my (B7) lover
and to this café I (E) come
And here I wait till (A) someone
stirs his (B7) coffee with his (E) thumb

(E) As I sat down one (B7) evening
within a small ca (E) fé
A forty year old (A) waitress
to (B7) me these words did (E) say

I see you are a (B7) logger
and not just a common (E) bum
For nobody but a (A) logger
stirs his (B7) coffee with his (E) thumb

  • I cannot confirm if its the original, but another version i found is from the old "everybody sing vol2". I recently found the cassette tape and a boom box. I DONT miss those technologies, but i dont have a device to upload the audio so...

It actually has a slightly different ending, changes the last 3 verses, i prefer the other verses. If anybody does have that album please upload and link.

  • ha! great stuff.

  • Hello

    LD...

While it isn't physically possible for me to even approach your sterling falsetta vibrato parts...this pleasant little story song is still singable. Thank you for this pleasantry.

    Pax,

    Max
