Farmers used to push old cars down into the banks hoping to hold them in place. It was legal "back then" of course. The price of scrap steel was not much back then and this seemed a good use for them. Some of those cars were push by walls of water in big down pours, pushed down to the river. Others were put directly on the river bank to help stop the river encroaching any further onto a farmers river bottom ground as the river would always change its course through the years and sometime in a few hours...It was legal back then, of course not anymore. These cars and trucks have had more miles of river pass them than they have driven combined.

  • Cool Vid!!

  • @buttmanroad Thanks!! :- )

  • tell that to the gov't ...cash for clunkers was one of the most destructive things to happen to good old used cars. They seized up the engines and destroyed them so no one could use any parts off of them. How screwed up is that???? And the metal went to CHINA.

  • @theartist53 The gov't (not the republic, but the democracy we have now) seized up all of the engines in older cars so they could never be used again. The scrap went to China as a payment on the gazillions we owe them. Welcome to the oligarchy.

  • Actually these old cars were dumped like this to help hold the banks in place during flooding. They've become bizarre sculptures now and are homes to a multitude of species.

  • WOW...how could you tell what was in there??? You're good!

  • I have seen this a lot in west North Carolina too. Near Bryson City

  • We have a '20 T touring that is now a museum piece, most of the body was pulled from a ditch such as this.

  • Sad deal.

  • @theartist53 When my old cars head gasket went for the third time, I phoned up a company that broke cars for spare parts, so that someone, somewhere could reuse bits from my old car. Surely that would be greener than just wreaking the engine and squashing what was left of it and sending over to China.

  • ughhhh I saw a 47-53, 5 window Chevy/GMC truck, '58 Chevy Bel Air, and the most heinous ............A '66 CHEVELLE!

  • heartbreaking
