How to use your Free Glucose meter. I did this test after eating a huge huge meal so you can see kind of high readings. The machine is pretty simple to use and is GREAT for runners who want to learn what their blood sugar levels are. Turns out many runners do not know how to properly "fuel" their bodies for a long run and having this machine is a nice diagnostic to determine your blood sugar level.

You can get a free Glucose Meter if you follow the guidelines given here:

Basically, Glucose is "created" in the liver as glycogen which is then converted back to glucose and sent to the muscles so you can run or whatever.

In the muscles, the glucose is THEN broken down to yield (Adenosine Tri Phosphate) ATP, which is the fuel source for muscles. Like gasoline for your cat...

As Glucose is used your body (because you are using your muscles) will continue to increase your blood glucose levels as its primary fuel source during your workout.

However, once your body uses up its glucose, your blood glucose levels will drop. At this point, your body begins to draw on stored fat to fuel the workout.

I know what you are thinking.. I can lose weight by eating up fat instead of glucose.. There is a big controversy about this.

In the end it is never good to let your glucose levels drop too low...

Again, get the freebie machine to see what YOUR glucose levels are BEFORE and AFTER a run!

A healthy person's fasting (take the test when you wake up or before a meal) blood glucose is between 75-100 mg/dL.

A fasting level of 101-125 mg/dL indicates a glucose impairment (pre-diabetes), and 126 or higher indicates diabetes condition.

A healthy, non-fasting blood glucose is between 80-120 mg/dL. Low blood sugar can also be a problem, and a level below 60 mg/dL is considered unhealthy.
