she sings this like a pop song:)) Musicality=0, voice far too young.

No disrespect meant, but what are you supposed to compare this to? If you compare it to opera, it's below amateur level. And the voice isn't that good.

Such a wonderful masterpiece of classical music <3<3<3

@classicgrace Not really. She damaged her voice early on with choice or repertoire and bad technique. I sadly fear that jackie Evancho will go the same way. Church shouldn't have been singing opera arias so young. She's off pitch in several places and strained on the top notes. And yes, she has no idea what the aria actually means and was nowhere ready to sing this.

Pretty bad, IMO. Curiousity would be the only reason to listen to it. I have to hear more of her more recent work.

This song is sung well for someone with her skill level. I posted before that the emotional level of this song i beyond her, and I suppose I should better word what I meant by that statement. Opera, when sung by a more mature voice, one that is seasoned and understands the meaning behind what is being sung, carries emotion in it, letting you feel what the character feels, even if the language is not understood. While the song is not the most complex emotion wise, her voice is blank of emotion.

Complex emotions...?Are there complex emotions in this song? This, if anything, is a young girl's song! Maybe Marguerite was as young as 15 or 16. Of course, the music is for a mature voice, but the emotions in the song are the excitement of a young girl on receiving a pretty necklace!

This aria it's not complete...! why should she sing it uncomplete? And... she is singing as a mezzo now... too many rare thigs... anyway, she is lovely and had a lovely voice as a child...

OH THIS IS WHAT THAT SONG SOUNDS LIKE!!! I'm a big Tintin fan, and the character the Castifiore sings this song all the time. lol just as I imagined, overly operatic in every way.

Hey everybody, shut the fuck up and either listen to the song or leave the page.
It's easy to bash Charlotte's choice to sing certain songs so young, however had many of us had a mature voice at her age, we might have also made some wrong repertoire choices. Having said that, Charlotte has a beautiful instrument and sings a lovely rendition. It is not the version of an opera singer, however it is lovely in it's own way

My mother was a music major all through high school and collage. She attended Houston's HSPVA and has always sung around me growing up. If there is one thing she has always told me about singing opera it is that if you do not understand the story, you can not live the song. I agree with her on this. At such a young age as 14 one can not understand the complex emotions behind this song. Further more, while she was very talented for her age, she was no where near ready for this song.
