  • Mike was one of the few world class athletes who actually "got it".

  • See the 10 requirements of proper exercise. Remember, the value of an exercise is determined by the quality of the resistance.

  • From 1974 on, Mike trained almost exclusively on Nautilus machines, except for an occaisional Squat, Deadlift, Barbell curl, or Abdominal work, for variety. Sometimes a Universal machine was used for heavy negatives, or rest-pause on the Overhead Press and Incline Press on a small bench that was low to the floor. Problem was, not all gyms were fully equipped. A Nautilus machine will provide everything a barbell does, but a barbell cannot, does not provide everything a properly built machine can

  • sounds and looks like a tranny!

  • She obviously has never been shown the proper setup or use of the Nautilus machines.

  • This is embarrassing....even I know that.

  • @MrRanger1987--Nautilus machines were, in their inventor's own words, a "thinking man's barbell." He created them because free weights do not provide automatically variable resistance, balanced resistance, direct resistance throughout the FULL RANGE of motion (as opposed to free weights), and a handful of other things I don't have the space to write here. I never said anything about Mentzer, so I don't have anything to say about him or his training. Generally, Genetics+Steroids=anything works.

  • if you have ever watched a video of mike himself train with hit you will see he only used machines himself for a few different body parts and always mixed them in or substituted with free weights whenever he had and adequate spotter available. in his later days making his hit dvd he changed a lot of his training styles but he himself was to old to actually use those end philosophies in his own training so he pushed them on others as test dummies.

  • @MRDOLCE247 machines werent made because free weights were lacking... they are easier to use, more appealing to the fat americans because they can sit on their ass and workout, and they are safer. they force improper range of motion, limit muscle activity and are super expensive. your talking sets to failure like mike mentzer, but he did most of his training with free weight and only used machines on exercises where a spotter was too hard during failure like bench and leg press.

  • I CAN'T BELIEVE this woman actually owns a Nautilus Gym. Unbelievable. No sets to failure. Hour-long workout instead of twenty minutes or less. FREE WEIGHTS at the end?! That's what the machines are for! They were invented SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE free weights were lacking in so many different ways. I've seen the "expert village" videos in several different disciplines and they're ALWAYS useless.
