This lesson teaches four basic jazz drum fills that you can use with the jazz drum beats we teach here at FreeDrumLessons.com. These patterns are fairly basic, but will enable you to eventually start creating your own unique patterns. Start by mastering these fills, and then modify them with your own ideas.

  • I find this guy's voice disturbingly soothing and relaxing. If I was rich I'd pay him to read me bedtime stories.

  • wow listen to his voice at 1: 45

  • @PAINRULEZ Cynic is amazing but I have to disagree that their newer stuff is better. Their original album Focus is more musical, and jazzier (i think so) though harder. Check out Animals as Leaders

  • @mwstakyle check out sean reinert from cynic.

  • There's a lot more of a difference between metal and jazz than just technique, there's also the performance aspect. Metal is very rehearsed, very thought out in advance, because the beats are meant to be played exactly the same way every time. Rigid, structured. Jazz is almost the opposite, and while it's not always true, some jazz bands never play the same song the same way twice.

Both styles require a solid beat laid down by a competent drummer, but neither is required to be "challenging".

  • Most metaldrummers take example of jazz :D

  • @mwstakyle i found an amazing band its a mix of jazz and metal called cynic look up the newer stuff its better i suggest the king of those who know by them

  • I got a ball to play jazz XDD I love to play jazz it's kinda interesting to play with. :)))

  • @4madman4 some bands go all out, sure, that's their style, but not only is that nothing to do with the ''loudness'' of the band, the lack of dynamics is part of some styles of metal, not all metal is like that, there are plenty of metal bands out there who play complex, dynamic sections of music in contrast to the loud and heavy stuff, just because you've not heard it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • @4madman4 generally they aren't trying to be louder, that's the mastering 'loudness war' it isn't really to do with the bands, more the label, when the band finish an album the label get it mastered and it's become a trend to have the CD mastered louder than the band before, when it comes to recording loudness doesnt make a difference, no matter how loud you have your guitar/drums/etc, they always get turned down in the mix if needs be. More to the point, you're generalising massively

  • i think everyone should just enjoy the music and learn something new. good on people who put instructional videos up for everyone to learn from. salute to you all. and metal is awesome. jazz is amazing. music is awesomely amazing .

  • I'd rather have this guy under my bed than William dafoe
