Higurashi AMV - Voices (Disturbed)

My first AMV! It was made as entry for the Abunaicon 2011 (a Dutch anime/manga convention) AMV competition. Unfortunately it didn't make the final 16. /wrists

About the AMV itself:

The pairing of the song Voices by Disturbed and Higurashi should be an obvious one. I hope at least some Higurashi fans will be entertained by this! Tools used include Vegas 10, AviSynth, SUPER, AnyDVD and Photoshop.

@CharmingIceDS About the pacing, yes..that's also right, I basically ran out of ideas/time to keep up with the pacing of the song, and it shows. And it's not bitching at all, I appreciate being told what other more experienced editors think, they've been there before. It's the only way to really improve yourself. So, thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing your AMV. And well, I'm glad the quality is at least up to par, that's something ;)

For your first amv, im very impressed. you definitely know more about the technical part then i do.. Makes me feel bad XD

But i agree on the kind of randomness in the amv and lack of any kind of story (even though it seems you tried to make one).

Just work hard on the next one :)

@raptorxlovesanime Obviously technical knowledge doesn't automatically mean you'll make it ;). But yeah, the technical part I've got nailed. Thanks for the comments..yes, I've definitely put some random stuff in as filler, and it kills the pacing. Longer video isn't necessarily better, as I've found out. It's still fun though, to have actually made one now, and I might just start working on a second one sometime.

@dernierespensees Each and every AMV compo in Holland we have at least 1 Higurashi AMV. TTGL not so much, I started with TTGL because it was my first entry ever and I made a huge mistake to use it again. I learned the hard way but even with that mistake I still scored 6th place last year. :3 I learned that originality is also something that makes your video stand out and eventually score high. I'm not saying I'm very good or something, I'm just sharing my experinces with you. (^_^)

@CharmingIceDS There's plenty of Higurashi stuff around, I'll give you that. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Most of the AMV's I see in these compo's concern the more popular series, because a lot of people will recognise it. You've used TTGL, which is pretty popular/overused..amirite? About the music..yes, I'm afraid I can't deny it, Disturbed is mainstream and overused. I'll keep that in mind for my next song choice. About the jokes..yes..weird sense of humor I guess.

@dernierespensees Last comment, this one is based on my own opinion. The audio you used is very upbeat and asks for action. Most clips don't make it happen.

This al may sound like a bunch of bitching at first but you'll learn from it! ;D

PS. Your AMV is much much better than my fist AMV but I entered my first AMV to a compo after 2/3 years of hobby editing. So who cares? :P

@dernierespensees Best comment on your AMV should be: AWESOME QUALITY. Unlike most you started with good quality. +1 But other than that you've made the same n00b mistake like most of the new guys by useing OVERUSED ANIME and OVERUSED AUDIO so that's -2. Looking into the AMV... What's up with the random "jokes"? If you try to make something funny, don't make your own jokes, use the jokes or funny parts from the Anime and try something with it. (read next)

@CharmingIceDS That's fine, I like straight to the point, and I like feedback that allows people to improve themselves, but I don't like "HERP DERP DIS SUX LOL". So it's up to you to decide in which category your feedback falls =p
