Our Cat Grace Giving Birth

Update: Regarding the use of the knife, we originally anticipated not using it, however after the first kitten was born it became very clear that Grace had no intention of clearing the Amniotic Sac on her own accord. If she was going to, it was going to happen after far too long - so yes, we decided it was best to intervene. The cuts were sparingly and very carefully utilized to open the Amniotic Sac only and allow Grace's maternal instincts to take over beyond that point.

After this kitten however, every other one was born with a burst sac and further intervention was unnecessary. I wish I had a more accurate, surgical type scalpel at the time of this video, but I had to use what was available to me due to the fact that we basically came home from a trip together and said, "Oh crap. Kittens!". I did sterilize the knife, for those concerned about cross-contamination.

On a final note, the kittens are all doing fantastic! My lady friend in the video took two of them and her parents are graciously watching them now. Two of them went to a couple of family friends and the fifth lived with us until just recently.

@o0xxthanhnguyenxx0o There is a chance if the mother is a new mother, she will not know what to do, that is when you (the owner) have to tear open the amniotic sac and cut the cord. An experienced mother will eat the cord and eat the after birth to start stimulating more milk.
