  • "... a couple of geriatric mud wrestlers"?

What a strange and wonderful description! (particularly when made in reference to how something sounds?!)

  • Scariest intro ever made

  • No matter how many times I see the movie or hear this song, it still gives me chills.

  • This is what cracked me up about the tune when I first researched it. It's a reinterpretation of a hym continuously interpretated by composers throughout the centuries.

  • Dark and sinister as only the arco playing of a double bass can be. Job well done!

  • This really adds a dark somberness to the scene. Really suspenseful. You don't know what's gonna happen next. Nicely, nicely done!

  • @losdog13 fuck you.

  • @XOneIsAllYouNeedX your gay.

  • I see the helicopter :)

  • Stanley Kubrik originally comissioned Wendy Carlos to do the soundtrack for "The Shining", but he later decided to use various other pieces by different classical composers. He ended up using only 2 of Carlos's songs in the final movie. One of her peices was mixed into the background of the "Symphonie Fantastique" for the opening credits.

Her original score is now available on the CD's "Rediscovering Lost Scores: Vol-1 & 2" by Wendy Carlos. She also did the score for "A Clockwork Orange."

  • I wonder if this influenced the intro theme to "Thunderdome?"
