Here is a couple of videos of 55022 absolutely caning it through Balne, north of Doncaster on the ECML on 2/12/11. No doubt this will bring back happy memories to some viewers of Deltic's belting north up the East Coast in the 1970's....destination Edinburgh!
Could so easily have been 1978 all over again.

  • The more I watch these videos the more I marvel at the engineering of these magic locomotives and the amazing work that the RSG team do to keep the dream alive for the many napier devotees around the country....... we salute you.

  • @carlbd9016 100% agree!

  • Very nice framing on the 2nd shot at High Gate. Scot Grey definitely at 'the ton'. I was nearby at Low Gate with Messrs Dye and Beaumont. Great acoustics.

  • @Heck9001 Ta,your vid is brilliant also. Wondered if you all might be about somewhere!..if you saw a shadow running across the fields it was me lol Pure magic though,my shot was at the foot crossing, walked across the track just after i could hear it in the distance....to see that headlight and hear that drone getting louder was a real spine tingling moment, something i will never forget.

  • thought I'd commented, nice to hear it coming from a distance, nice vids of the Deltic mark, merry Christmas and a happy new year, may see you on the double header on 28th Jan, cheers.

  • Fantastic! Who needs visuals with a sound like that!

  • @alberta45562 Yes Mark, all the gang (with the exception of Mr Beaumont senior who was a bit badly at the moment) were at the Lowgate. We were on the tour to Perth on the Tuesday and had had time to discuss where best to soak up that Deltic aural experience best for the Lincoln tour. The lack of wind meant it didn't disappoint. You, like me, must have thought, despite the darkness, it was worth videoing for the sound alone. Wasn't it just! Your (Dad's?) shot at Highgate is stunning - real drama!

  • Superb locomotive in fine fettle. See my video from Lincoln on Friday 2nd December.

  • them vids are simply stunning the sound is fantastic and i cant beleive her speed, in my opinion this deltic puts most if not all of todays traction to shame, you cant beat british the proof is in the pudding and the pudding has just zoomed past twice in this vid, like last december most of this countrys trains cancelled yet RSG comes and does a railtour from i think was it kk to scotland ( dundee ) i think with no probs, a truely classic loco, thank you

  • A very enjoyable clip and truly showing off 22's engines and speed. Seems as though she was near the 100mph mark there too, thanks to the both of you for sharing this and braving the cold weather.
