I'm in Australia and am having cross linking done in 2 months and I am scared out of my brains. I was diagnosed 3 months ago and my right eye is worse than my left (400 reading from the orb scans)
What could I expect after the cross linking ?

@RevivalTechno hello I was thinking to go to Germany to the operation in the summer.. can i ask you where did you do your operation i mean in which hospitable ? my doctor say University Hospital Aachen germany is vary good is it true or i need to go somewhere else?!
-
hi i'm from Europe (germany) and I had this operation. I wouldn't travel to Europe for it try getting it in the U.S.. The costs in Europe would be around 4000$ not counting in your travel expanses. Apart from the costs it's important to find a doctor who is experienced as the procedure only works if done correctly. Afterwards you'll still have to wear contacts but you don't have to change them so often. In addition you might consider the iscription technology worked for me.

@awesomenessautumn hi , I have keratconus for about 11 years , the last 3 years were very hard for me since I could not wear RGP lenses, there’s a new type of soft lenses name : kerasoft lenses in Europe since 2009 , recently in November 2011 they are available in USA they ‘re my new hope of having vision without a pain but I' m scare of the idea that it not going to work for me , I will do more research on them .

@TheMelpio Hi Melpio, Well my point was that you will take upto 3-4 weeks to settle down, you can do all ur work after 12-24hrs of surgery, the only thing that will irritate is the blurry vision and it was a problem for me to actually read a book for ten days approx but it will vary with everyone. use the eye drops well and you should be okay in a week max. best of luck.

@awesomenessautumn you must do it. if you dont then you will get to final treatment that is cornea transplant and believe me you dont wanna get to that... so do it asap thats much recommended... im sorry for what you have my sister too is 18 and she and i happened to have it... all the best...
Did you ever have LASIK? A lot of the LASIK industry is calling LASIK induced thinning of the cornea, or ECTASIA, instead lying and calling you "misdiagnosed" with a disease called KERATACONUS. So be careful folks. The LASIK industry is evolving away from LASIK to Collagen Cross Linking "CCL" because they know thinning out the Cornea is NOT GOOD and causes Dry Eye Pain, the FLAP is permanent and never heals, etc... @dkantis No, I never had Lasik but I totally understand what you are saying and have met people who have developed Kerataconus after having Lasik. I had crosslinking but would never qualify for lasik anyway because my cornea's have always been way thin, I barely qualified for CXL.

@gusandbella Any negatives experienced from CCL-Collagen Cross Linking that you can think of that I can pass "on" so patients get "Full Informed Consent?" Thank you for your reply and good luck.

@dkantis No negative experiences that I can think of..aside from the intense burning feeling I had in my eyes for couple days after but meds helped !

I'm 19 and have had KC for 8 years. I've exhausted most of my options except for corneal transplant in the US...I have no insurance, and I'm too young to be in the study. I'm considering traveling to Europe to get the surgery. Would you say it's worth it? I don't wear contacts now because they are not worth the pain and the hassle anymore, and I can't afford to get a new pair 3 times a year. I am worried about transplant because I'm only 19. I'm terrified to lose my vision completely.

@awesomenessautumn HI there, If your over 18, you should be eligible for a study. I wouldn't give up, I know how frustrating it is, I have had the disease about 18 years but there are so many new treatments coming out..I don't feel you have to travel that far. Not sure where you live bu there are so many good options here in the U.S.
