This is the recently released Bachmann DCC on Board DDA40x engine. It comes with 2 motors and 1 board which controls both motors, all wheel pickup, and operating beacon. I hacked off the operating beacon, stock horns, and firecracker antenna. I removed the stock DCC board (comes with 8 pin connection). I replaced the board with a QSI Revolution with GP38 and Leslie S3 horns. I will be adding an AC unit, new firecracker and Details West beacon to the engine.

I added some Microscale decals. I'd like to make this engine similar in appearance to the Centennial which UP still runs (#6936).

I wanted to see how many weighted coal cars the engine would haul and I got the engine to stall at approx 3:00 minutes as it went upgrade. I added an Athearn Genesis SD70 eequipped with a QSI Revolution and they hauled the beast up grade around the rest of the layout.

  • is it me or is it that bachman is slowly starting to present better quality products?

  • I'm detailing it so you need to keep that in mind. Bachmann still does not compare to Atlas, Kato, or Athearn in my opinion when it comes to details and motors.

  • I dont think Bachmans drives or detail will ever compare to Kato, stewart, Atlas etc-- Up until recently everything they made except their "spectrum" line has been more like department store toy trains than hobby grade. You would think they would want to step up and get in on the hobby game with better products and make more money-?

  • Is that an animated excavator in the background?

  • did you get the sound with the trains or did you install it and if you did what is the name of the chip

  • thats not a big coal train get some more cars on that thing man I think I have 70 on the one I put on here, maybe that was the other vidoe I cant remember. I have had 110 bethgons behind 3 Kato dash 9's with 2 Atlas 8-40CW's 65 cars in. that was a train it was a pain in the train actually makes a neat video but it takes too much work to set up and run I think Im gonna stick with 40 to 50 two Kato dash9's or AC4400's can pull that many if you add about an ounce and a half to em

  • Why do you expect this locomotive to negotiate 18" radius curves? It is the largest operating locomotive in the world. Bachmann even tells you it will not operate on 18" radius curves.

  • @dash9wyoming Yes, its the 18" that it has problems with!

  • My DDA40X doesn't seem to like 18" radius curves very well. I had to go out and buy all new 22" radius curves just to keep it on the tracks.

  • cool setup!

  • @MrCagivaman I've noticed that too. I live in the USA but have seen vids of their european models and was blown away.

  • watch out centennial fans, Athearn is releasing a dda40x that will put Bachman to shame.....

  • @yambo59 Strange, because over here in Europe, the Bachman models have superb level of detail. Especially the British outline models.
