  • It is really splendid, full of colors suiting the feelings and the words. Yes, Rolando is the most sensitive singer at the moment , who really knows how to use his precious instrument. Another real thank for this spendid video, the sound is so good !

  • Ah, bravo, caro!!! He does indeed sound better than ever. Damn, he's so intelligent, knows what he's doing and does it so well. Like all of you, I'm delighted he's back and look forward to seeing, hearing and enjoying him.

  • June 6 Premiere London. "The pick of the cast was undoubtedly Rolando Villazón,in the title role. His first word - "Fontainebleau" - full of the passion and yearning suffused his entire performance.

This production is Carlo's story, a tragedy on a Shakespearean scale, and Rolando, in magnificent form, provided a charismatic centre.

His Carlo was a Spanish Hamlet, immature, impulsive and ruled by his passions...No restraint for Rolando, whose ardor ran unchecked in desire for Elisabetta

  • From review on premiere "Don Carlo" June 6 2008 in Covent Garden

"Rolando Villazon's febrile Don Carlo is the utterly believable protagonist. Spinning out his lines with soaring grace in the cloudlessly happy opening scenes,he seems to freeze as fate's hammer-blow falls and his Oedipal plight is revealed:he then switches convulsively from crazy elation to pleading,head-banging despair. But the other side of Carlo is the crusader for freedom shoulder to shoulder with his blood-brother Rodrigo..

  • from review on Don Carlo June 6

.a tragedy on a Shakespearean scale, and Rolando, in magnificent form, provided a charismatic centre. His Carlo was a Spanish Hamlet, immature, impulsive and ruled by his passions, an interpretation lent emphasis by the comparative restraint of the other principal performances. No such restraint for Rolando, whose ardor ran unchecked whether in his unfulfilled desire for Elisabetta, his deep bond with Posa or his devotion to the cause of freedom and justice

  • This production is very much Carlo's story, a tragedy on a Shakespearean scale, and Rolando, in magnificent form, provided a charismatic centre. His Carlo was a Spanish Hamlet, immature, impulsive and ruled by his passions, an interpretation lent emphasis by the comparative restraint of the other performances. No such restraint for Rolando, whose ardor ran unchecked whether in his unfulfilled desire for Elisabetta, his deep bond with Posa or his devotion to the cause of freedom and justice

  • FOR ALL ROLANDO'S FANS:

RV sang premiere of 'Don Carlo' in Covent Garden yesterday (June 6 2008) and it was extremely successful (read review in "The Independent".) He will go on in all the best opera theaters in the World with all BEST conductors. They inviting him not because of anybody, just for his amazing musical talent. Nobody can press first rate conductors like Barenboim, Chailly, Pappano, Levine.
