GORDON Brown sensationally declares today that he will NOT scrap the Pound for the foreseeable future.

He tells The Apprentice tycoon Sir Alan Sugar he has no plans to ditch it for the euro.

And the PM dismisses calls by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso for Britain to join the single currency.

His words will be seen as a firm commitment to keeping the Pound — despite pressure from new Business Secretary Lord Mandelson to switch to the euro.

Grilling

Amstrad boss Sir Alan tells Mr Brown in a wide-ranging grilling he fears Britain will scrap the Pound as its value dips towards one euro.

Sir Alan says: If it gets to a pound to the euro then we are in the euro, arent we? The PM replies: No, no, no.

  • @g1h2nedlaw The labour Government had to borrow to re construct a dilapidated public sector left my Thatcher / Major.

  • Thatcher created the wealth which Blair spent, and when it ran out Brown borrowed and borrowed and borrowed..................... Tell your kids to emigrate and get out of this god forsaken land of debt creators.

Listen to Brown again. What load of old waffle. Patronisng bunkem.

  • Tony Blair faced increasing opposition from the LABOUR CABINET, so he stepped down.

  • tony blair faced increasing opposition from the BRITISH PUBLIC, so he stepped down. Dont call me an idiot

  • Brown is realistic, this is no time for rhetoric - even if he's attempting it. I'm not sure whether Cameron would be any better, I see a lot of Blair in him - an attempt to seem like the average guy which disguises a lot of things. I don't know, Cameron is clearly going to win now anyway, guess we just have to see what happens. I for one am happy with Brown is doing right now though.

  • Clearly you are an idiot. Tony Blair resigned and Gordon Brown succeeded him, it had nothing to do with the British public.

  • I don't understand why Gordon isn't like this all of the time, i don't agree with what he says 100% [he wouldn't be human if i did] but sometimes the bloke talks sense! if hes still in govt when the next election rolls around he has my vote, & i hope he stays in because the alternative to him seriously worries me, just remember people what the conservatives did last time we were in a situation like this, they fucked up! and history will repeat itself if they get in this time!

  • Has Sir Alan Sugar been called Lord Alan Sugar now..

  • well this was surreal...

  • The british public are absolute idiots. Why fix something that aint broke? BRING BACK TONY BLAIR
