@zonezonezone123456 rocket launches should be used to launch space elevator bases in space.

@skyelevator let the 3rd world develop it'self. it's not the devolped nations job to take care of them we have enough trouble at home. they have the resources, if they would get out of religious extremism and ignorance.

@dimpilsPEACE guess we will have to clean the space junk first. not a big deal , it will be highly profitable to clean up space junk if only for the historical value.

@tnima95 plasma jets are can be electrically powered, fuel is not an issue and the weight with centripetal forces will keep it mostly in line. oxygen and supply will come up with the humans. lot of small trips that don't cost much to bring things up will make this more efficient than heavy lifts on a very inefficient chemical rocket.

i say let the Saudis fund it ,givehAlkida some kickbacks and the rest of the world rents rides without fear of radical wanting to bow it up.

Has anybody else caught the news about NASA's new Ride The Light beamed power project? That might be useful for a space elevator.

@redelman43199 But when they are releasing the ribbon it is going to have to trail behind an "object moving at a fast speed", also, don't bump old posts, that comment was 5 months ago, thanks a lot.

@koolman280 First of all, only objects moving at a fast speed (Usually through free fall) is going to burn in the atmosphere. As for the ribbon a no fly zone will be enforced around it. Planes won't be allowed to go within 90 miles of it.

The 20 times strong than steel is now 117 times stronger than steel 30 times stronger than Kevlar. They can make each carbon nanotube 3mm long but they are typically 1mm. The Chinese company Cnano are producing 500 tonnes of the stuff per year.
Does anyone know how much of the stuff it takes to build a space elevator and what the Chinese are doing with their 500 tonnes per year?

They forgot about the part where anything going through the atmosphere is going to burn :P And what if an airplane accidentally hits this ribbon? Or intentionally? (New forms of terrorist attacks.)
yes, most of them not even american.
