  • Read mens health..great article. It is 2 different movements, if you don't want to be open minded no problem. Don't do a kip, don't try anything new and stay..KINDA FIT...no problem. But stop the freaking trash talk

  • The kipping pullup is a functional movement: I violently contort my body while hanging from a bar every day. You also use more muscles in a kipping pullup than in a strict one, because momentum, which is responsible for most of the work, is apparently a muscle now. Why build lat strength when you can twitch like a retard? Thank you, exercise sage, for clearing that up for everyone.

  • @xanyxxxx Iam a crossfitter, but kipping is just bs. you can be just as explosive and fast with a regular pull up, its just harder. If you havent seen Hannibal's pull up videos you should check them out, he just shows how regular pull ups gives you wicked strength.

  • Otherwise known as "not a pull up." Why don't crossfitters ever do real pull ups? What do they have against getting strong?

  • Way to exaggerate the number of pull-ups a person can do, try doing a real one Ha!

  • kipping is shit

  • If you were hanging from a ledge and someone was there to pull you up, would you do a kipping pull up to recover, or would you grab his hand and have him pull you over? And with that being said, why not just have someone stand on top of the pullup bar and have him pull your dudes up instead of kipping? After all, that's the more "functional" way to get up there.

  • *I'm not saying one would use strict kipping form...

  • ...And another thing about the whole "functional movement" thing: Let's say you were in some crazy (God forbid) Cliffhanger-style, life-threatening situation where you had to pull yourself up onto some ledge or something. Would you be focused on your freaking strict form, or are you going to use every muscle and ounce of strength and momentum you can muster to get yourself to safety? I'm saying one would use strict kipping form, but I'm not going to be thinking about what I would do in the gym.

  • I don't understand all the CrossFit (and kipping) hate. I did a bodybuilding-type split routine (always incorporating strict pullups on back day) for approximately a decade when I decided to give CF a try just to switch things up. I've actually increased my rep range on strict pullups since I've been doing the kip. There is honestly nothing wrong with either technique, just like there is nothing wrong with either CrossFit or whatever weightlifting routine you choose. Correct form is key.

  • as a gymnastics coach I use some of these progressions for bars skills such as power casts, tap swings and actual kips. seems strange to use this for pull ups seeming how people learn to do cheats by themselves. But I have to commend the use of solid gymnastics drills!!!

  • DOLPHIN PULL UPS IS A CHEATING WAY TO GET MORE PULL UPS, IT MAKES IT EASIER, AND USUALLY DONE BY BEGGINERS.
