His debut album, Quik Is the Name, which was released in 1991, was led by the success of two top 20 R&B singles, "Tonite" and "Born and Raised in Compton." The album ended up reaching 10th on the album charts,and being certified Platinum by the RIAA.

  • Fantastic. I like that perm Quik is rockin' too. Only a G could get away with a hairstyle like that. I couldn't go walkin' around in the burbs like that.

    I just noticed that he lifted the bassline to this from The Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23". Works very well within this context. Fat bass grooves just go so nicely with Quik's flow.
