A NEW advertising campaign is launching across national daytime TV to promote the fact that Specsavers the glasses retailer also sells hearing aids. The advert, which will be seen on the small screen from Monday 20 April 2009, features a charming animated dog crafted by Hibbert Ralph Animations Jerry Hibbert.
Graham Daldry, Specsavers creative director, says: We needed this advert to deliver its complex message and also prompt a direct response in a strongly visual way. Jerry Hibberts animation has given us a charming and engaging way of achieving this.
The Hearing Dog advert tells the story of a long-suffering pet dog whos tired of running errands, like answering the door and phone, on behalf of his hard-of-hearing owner, which he affectionately refers to as Old Two Legs. The faithful but frustrated dog eventually persuades Old Two Legs to buy Specsavers hearing aids by placing message cards, in the style of Bob Dylan videos, in front of the mans TV. Of course, one of the cards features the Shouldve gone to Specsavers strapline.
The dog protagonist, voiced by John Sessions in a Hancock style, puts in an engaging and warm performance in the manner of a line-drawn Punch cartoon coming to life.
