It all depend on when you start the clock.
If you start the clock today, with Israel bombing Gaza and civilians dying in the crossfire, then its easy to see Israel as the "bad guy", the oppressor, etc.
But if you turn back the clock to sometime before '48, when Jews had been denied their rights in Europe for 2000 years, and had been massacred in pogroms and death camps, then your perspective changes a bit.

Actually, just this week Israel has been accused of useing incindiary bombs, as people have been found with their skinn baked off and all that pretty stuff.
