Here is some footage i took of the spirit of progress on its return trip from albury, and now heading back to melbourne.

The spirit of progress train service first started in 1937.

It used to be hauled by a steam locomotive in its day, but these were scrapped years ago.

The Spirit Of Progress train is hauled by an B and S class locomotives as seen here today(if i am wrong please reply thanks) these were from the 50's
repainted in the original Vic rail colours from the day.

It is seen thundering past me viewed from a railway bridge.

Hope you enjoy, sorry about my annoying commentary as the train was coming, and the camera shake as i was holding it by hand.

  • Vice video. The paint on those is very much like that of the Erie in the USA. The locomotives could be mistaken for GM E8s. Wonder if GM had any involvement in the colours.

  • thanks for the comment. glad you enjoyed it.

maybe they did have some involvment in the colours?

  • Rule No;1,Never talk in your Vids,

  • @steviebboy69 I am the voice, just no one wants to listen

  • @johnnyfarnham hehe, that is probably true.

    are you the voice!! hehe

  • @dm3830 Steve Irwin would have jumped on the bloody thing lol

  • The second unit does look like an E8 but the roof details are wrong for one. Sounds awesome-2-stroke emd diesels are unmistakeable!

  • nice vid but the talking is a really terrible idea mate, leave that to Steve Irwin?

  • Beautiful!! Why couldn't EMD build double-ended E-units here in America? The only double-ended cab units we ever had here in the states were a half-dozen Baldwin "Baby-Face" double-enders for the Central RR of New Jersey. Also is this line you're filming been standard-gauged or is it still wide-gauge? Thanks.

  • Thats a damn fine locomotive.

  • Nice shot of this vintage Aussie EMD! I like how it looks like a double-ended E unit! And those passenger cars look quite like an American streamliner as well.

  • This is absolutely classic Victorian Railways. Thanks heaps.
