  • Right on, love the slow tempo and mellow tone both of your voice and banjo. I have been working on this tune for 2wks and have been using Patrick Costello's tab along with a little grateful dead influence. Would u mind terribly sharing your other sources/versions? Hope to see some more posts in the future

  • @chadreznicek Hey man, where did you find Patrick Costello's tab for this? Do you know where to find his other tabs? Could you give me a link?

  • @rhettconway In How and Tao of Old Time Banjo, which I think Patrick has kindly put out there open source somewhere. Check dailyfrail> Creative commons? Something like that.

  • @nightfrailer Really? I looked all through it before posting that comment, and I wasn't able to find it.

  • @rhettconway I think I got the core notes from a Pat Costello posting here on YouTube and then googled the song and found a bunch of lyrics, kept what I liked. I will be damned if I can find which Daily Frail of Patricks the notes were from, but it is out there.

  • @chadreznicek Sorry I missed your question for the last four months. This song seems to have a zillion old versions under various names, Deep Elem Blues, Georgia Black Bottom Blues, Back Bottom Blues etc. I think I got the core notes from a Pat Costello posting here on YouTube and then googled the song and found a bunch of lyrics, kept what I liked. I will be damned if I can find which daily Frail of Patricks the notes were from, but it is out there.

  • opps, meant to say "you should be able to find it withOUT too much difficulty

  • Hey guys you can find those tabs if you go to the dailyfrail website and type in black bottom blues into the search box. it will take you to a video workshop of the song and has a link the to the tabs. Youtube isnt letting me attach the actual link for some reason but you should be able to find it with too much difficulty, and again what a great version you have here

  • @nightfrailer Yeah, I'm having the hardest time. For one, I'm deaf on one side, and I'm only three months in. So, picking things up by ear is very difficult. I can watch what some people are doing, but nobody ever elaborates on what their frailing strum is. Patrick has one for it, but he's using a fretless mountain banjo. Meh, I will just have to persevere.

  • @jtyner6 its the dishtowel mute. Nothing like a 2 dollar dishtowel to suck all the overtones out of a $600 banjo.
