this one says it was purchased from suttons in melbourne(aust)

The record playing is i dont wanna dream again by harry kaye.

Sorry for the slight speed variation on the start of the video.

this machine is quite an old timer, and needs some restoration done on it.

  • Nice machine. I have an old "Campfone" portable of very similar construction that dates from the middle 1920s (1925-28)...maybe yours does, too.

Funny how after you've listened to wind-up phonos for a while your ear can pick up just when the spring starts to run down and the speed begins to change. On my Campfone 23 winds plays a typical 78 all the way thru.

  • thanks,

yes that is true. about the spring, i think this one needs the spring replaced or cleaned of old gunk on it.

    its never been overhauled.

  • that is absolutely beautiful!!! lovely piece of equipment!!

  • heheh,

thanks, but this one needs a bit of work.

not much maybe the spring needs cleaning and get the old grease of it and lubing?

  • I am a dedicated collector of phonographs (all types), and I can tell you that you have a valuable machine. It might need a little lubrication at the most. An interesting footnote is that this machine is made by Decca, but its design is quite similar to the Victrola VV-50 portable, like the one I am so proud to own.

What you have is a piece of History, please protect and preserve it.

  • awesome!!!!

  • @TheFutureLooksGrimm There is a horn, but it's hidden underneath, being a portable model.

  • Not bad! The Decca handles volume well [except for the extremely loud passages]. How does the record sound on your other machines?

  • hey i have got the same model but i got a question for you can u turn down the volume and if so how

  • I don't know much about these. I understand they wind up but I don't see a horn trumpet thing to bring the sound out from the needle and amplify it. So how does the sound work? It must use real speakers and if so, then the winding must have to generate electricity for them to work. How does this work?

  • excellent machine is it a decca salon the sound box could be made in switzerland ?? some are . in fact the swiss sound box knocks spots off any hmv 5a or 5 b and thats a fact superb machine

  • thats amazing!!
